In a construction market that, for many builders, is uncertain, it is becoming more and more important to choose a builder that you can trust. Many homeowners are left with projects uncompleted and their builder no where to be found. Often, the abandoned homeowner is left to pay bills the contractor left behind. Shugart Builders has been in business since 1952 and takes pride in the fact that it is an organization where the customer has no worry of their contractor disappearing or going out of business.
On occasion, there are unexpected issues that arise during the course of a building project. It has been our experience that our customers are astonished that we take full responsibility for any errors on our part and we promptly correct and pay for any additional expense incurred.
Many of our customers are amazed that our employees show up to the job every day, work for an entire day, and are driven to complete the project in a timely manner. Often homeowners will have their contractor start a project, then disappear for a week, only to return after nagging phone calls to the builder.
Shugart Builders takes pride in the work they complete. We work hard to deliver high-quality construction that will outlast our competitors. We stand behind our finished product and in the event that any part of the construction is flawed, Shugart Builders works to correct any issues immediately. In order to back our warranty like we do, we have minimum standards on the majority of the building products that we use. For example, we only use plywood on our houses. We have torn apart many houses built with OSB only to find that over time, it has disintegrated into wood chips. We also only use hem-fir framing materials. Although more expensive, hem fir is straighter and stronger which helps avoid unsightly nail pops and crooked walls. Shugart Builders looks for manufacturers who will stand behind their product in the event of any kind of mistake or failure, which is why we only use Pella and Andersen windows, we only use Certainteed roofing products, etc. Maintaining this level of quality does add expense, but the expense is well worth the peace of mind to our customers.
A common practice among many contractors is to get the customer to sign a contract where the homeowner has one thing in mind, and the builder has a much more minimal thing in mind. Once the project starts, items that the homeowner thought were included, are charged as extras. The contractor that was once the low bidder suddenly isn't such a great deal. Shugart Builders makes every effort to ensure that we are on the same page as our customer. In almost every case, we present extensive descriptions in our estimates, showing line by line how our costs are generated. We work hard to be on common ground with the customer and urge people who we work with to ask questions and get clarifications as we move through the bidding process.
It is through upholding these ethical and quality standards that Shugart Builders has developed an extensive base of returning lifetime customers.
